Intro - Research
Defang is a developer-first cloud tooling startup. The goal was to design a brand and landing page that felt calm, clear, and technically grounded, something that speaks to engineers, without falling into typical startup patterns.
Branding
We explored visual directions that felt structured and minimal, drawing from ideas like tunnels, flow, and system architecture.
Website Design
I designed a custom site that tells a clear story, starting with the problem, moving through features, and ending with testimonials, and an intuitive way to get started.
My role was to lead the design process from start to finish, from early exploration and strategy through to developer-ready Figma files, with clear UX flows and content structure to support implementation.
Branding
We leaned into the idea of Defang as a “wayfinder” a tool that transports developers wherever they need to go. This inspired a visual direction rooted in movement, tunnels, and pathways. The identity needed to feel technical, but also calm and directional, like a trusted system quietly working in the background.
Variations
We kept the hexagon from the original logo and explored ways to evolve it, testing different directions that ranged from rigid and technical to more abstract. The final mark feels like a natural progression: structured, directional, and quietly distinctive.
Portal
The portal was already in place, but I helped refine the experience by adding supporting content, navigation CTAs, and examples to guide developers through the system more clearly.
Website and Final Designs
The site was designed to drive clarity and conversions, starting with the problem, leading into features, a streamlined “getting started” section, real-world code examples, and testimonials. The final design balances structure and personality to position Defang as a credible, developer-first solution.
